The average date of the first 32-degree reading in the autumn ranges from early September in Northeast Kingdom towns such as Canaan and East Haven to October 3 in Burlington, according to National Weather Service data. (Matt Sutkoski, BFP, 9/18/08)

As of 2001, the National Climatic Center says that according to years of compiled data Burlington’s first killing frost of fall comes on an average date of October 1. (BFP 5/12/01)
