Severe Fourth of July thunderstorms across Vermont announced the end of a four-day heat wave. Golf ball-sized hail crashed down on Brookfield, and hail the size of quarters hit Warren. Trees and tree limbs fell in Union Village, Braintree and Hinesburg. (BFP 7/5/02)

The highest temperature ever reached in Vermont was 105 degrees F. in Vernon on July 4, 1911.
